Connecting Slack

From Workspace Settings → Slack, click Install. You're sent to Slack to approve access, then redirected back to Trailogs. Only members with full channel access can install, re-authorize, or uninstall Slack — other members see the buttons disabled.

Approving the install grants Trailogs a bot user in your Slack workspace with permission to:

The Slack card shows who connected the workspace and when, and reflects two problem states you may need to act on:

• Missing permissions — the connection predates a permission Trailogs now needs. Some features may not work correctly until you re-authorize.
• Bot token revoked — access was removed from the Slack side (e.g. the app was removed in Slack's App Directory). Notifications are paused until you re-authorize.

Both show a Re-authorize button that repeats the install flow. Re-authorizing must be done against the same Slack workspace that's already connected — connecting a different Slack workspace is treated as an error, not a switch.

Your Slack account

Once Slack is connected at the workspace level, each member can separately connect their own Slack account from the same settings page. This is optional, but it unlocks two things:

• Private channels become mappable. The bot alone can only see public channels; connecting your account lets its private channels appear in the channel-mapping picker.
• You can use Trailogs AI in Slack. Mentioning or DMing the app only works for Slack users who've connected their account — this is how Trailogs knows which workspace member is asking.

Click Connect account under "Your Slack account", approve access with your own Slack identity, and you'll see it listed as connected (e.g. as @yourname). This must be the same Slack workspace as the one connected to Trailogs.

Mapping channels

A mapping routes logs from one Trailogs channel into one Slack channel. Click Add mapping, pick a Trailogs channel and a Slack channel, and optionally narrow it down:

• Filter by categories — only notify for logs in specific categories.
• Filter by tags — only notify for logs carrying specific tags.
• Filter by subjects — only notify for logs referencing specific subjects.

Leaving a filter empty matches everything for that dimension. Filters can be edited later; the channel pair itself can't — delete the mapping and create a new one to point somewhere else.

Mappings aren't one-to-one: a single Trailogs channel can fan out to several Slack channels (with different filters each), and a single Slack channel can receive from multiple Trailogs channels.

If Trailogs loses access to a mapped Slack channel — the bot was removed, or the channel was archived or deleted — the mapping is flagged Channel unavailable in Settings, with a Check again link to re-test it once access is restored.

Log notifications

When a log is created that matches a mapping — right channel, and within any category/tag/subject filters — Trailogs posts it to the mapped Slack channel.

The View in Trailogs button opens the log directly in your workspace's Activity feed. If the log is edited afterward, Trailogs updates the same Slack message in place rather than posting a duplicate.

Asking Trailogs AI

Mention the Trailogs app in any channel it's in, or send it a direct message, and ask a question in plain language. It answers using your workspace's logs — it can search for specific logs or summarize activity across many of them.

@Trailogs what happened with the payments-service incident this week?

You need to have connected your own Slack account for this to work — it's how Trailogs matches you to your workspace membership. Group direct messages (multi-person DMs) aren't supported; mention the app in a real channel instead.

Where the answer shows up depends on how you asked:

• In a channel, the answer is visible only to you, with a Share response button — click it to post the same answer publicly to the channel.
• In a direct message, the answer is posted normally, threaded if you asked inside a thread.

Drafting a log from a conversation

There's no separate command for this — just ask, in the same thread you want captured:

Phrasing is flexible ("save this to Trailogs", "record this", and equivalents in other languages all work). Trailogs reads the thread, writes a title and summary from it, and replies with a link.

Opening that link takes you to your workspace's Activity feed with the log composer pre-filled — nothing is created automatically. Review the title and content, adjust anything you like, and submit it yourself to actually create the log. Unopened drafts expire after 48 hours.

Disconnecting

Uninstall (workspace settings, full-access members only) removes the integration entirely — every channel mapping and every member's personal Slack connection is deleted, and notifications stop immediately. This can't be undone; mappings and filters would need to be recreated if you reconnect later.

Disconnect on your personal account only removes your own link. It doesn't affect the workspace connection or other members, but you'll lose the ability to use Trailogs AI in Slack until you reconnect, and any private channels only you could see may become unavailable in mappings.
